Indian benchmark indices extended their gains through the session on Tuesday, with the NSE Nifty 50 closing at 25,935.15, up 67.85 points or 0.26 per cent, while the BSE Sensex settled 208.17 points higher at 84,273.92, a rise of 0.25 per cent.
The Nifty moved in a narrow intraday band of 25,870.45 to 25,989.45, inching closer to its 52-week high of 26,373.20. The Sensex touched a high of 84,482.95 and a low of 84,063.47 during the session.

In the auto space, Mahindra & Mahindra gained 1.79 per cent to ₹3,675.20, while Maruti Suzuki added 1.14 per cent. Bajaj Auto also advanced 1.79 per cent.
Technology stocks delivered a mixed performance. Tech Mahindra rose 1.66 per cent and TCS gained 1.18 per cent. However, HCLTech declined 2.03 per cent, emerging as the top laggard on the Sensex, while Infosys slipped 0.13 per cent.
Among financials, Axis Bank added 1.07 per cent and ICICI Bank rose 0.56 per cent. In contrast, HDFC Bank fell 0.55 per cent and SBI shed 0.23 per cent. Bajaj Finance dropped 1.74 per cent.
Power and infrastructure names lent support, with NTPC up 1.35 per cent, Power Grid gaining 1.36 per cent, and Larsen & Toubro rising 1.32 per cent.
ETERNAL was the standout gainer, surging over 5 per cent with heavy trading volumes, featuring among the most active stocks by value.
The Nifty’s price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio stood at 22.79, while the price-to-book (P/B) ratio was 3.52. On a one-year basis, the index has returned 10.92 per cent, though it remains down 0.81 per cent on a year-to-date basis.
Markets open higher in early trade
Indian benchmark indices opened marginally higher on Tuesday, supported by buying in banking, pharma and select energy counters.
At 9:17 am, the BSE Sensex was up 204.04 points, or 0.24 per cent, at 84,269.79. The index opened at 84,210.00 and touched an early high of 84,301.52, after closing at 84,065.75 in the previous session.
The NSE Nifty 50 rose 59.10 points, or 0.23 per cent, to 25,926.40. The index opened at 25,922.65 and moved between an intraday low of 25,870.45 and a high of 25,934.95. Market breadth was firmly positive, with 35 stocks advancing and 15 declining on the Nifty.
Among the top gainers on the Nifty were ONGC (up 1.28 per cent), Trent-linked TMPV (1.18 per cent), Eternal (1.04 per cent), Cipla (0.93 per cent) and Axis Bank (0.79 per cent). Titan, Sun Pharma, Apollo Hospitals, HDFC Life and Reliance Industries also traded in the green, reflecting strength in financials, healthcare and energy names.
On the downside, HCLTech fell 0.69 per cent, while Wipro, Shriram Finance, Hindalco, JSW Steel and IndiGo were among other early laggards. Select IT and metal stocks saw mild profit-taking.
